WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! I hope that all of our Lindon Leopards had a chance this summer to have fun with friends, spend time with family, help with a bit of yard work, grow an inch or two, and read several books. I also hope that each student had the chance to experience something new this summer-be it a new food, a new vacation spot, or whatever. New experiences help us alert and when circumstances change we have the chance to discover talents and possiblities that might otherwise remain hidden.
We will be welcoming some new experiences and changes here at Lindon Elementary as we say "hello' to several new faces (like our new kindergarten teacher, Diane Godfrey) and new programs (like Recess Before Lunch). While the people and programs being replaced were valuable and served us well, I am confident that our new staff members will bring fresh talents and unique perspectivies to our school community and that the new programs we implement will provide an excellent blend of innovationa and tradition. Of course, please remember that some level of discomfort and confusion always accompanies any change, even changes for the better.
I would also like to comment on the fantastic parental support we have. On average, our parents log nearly 9,000 volunteer hours each year serving the school! That is a staggering amount of help. THANK YOU! What's more, this total doesn't include the hours that parents spend at school participating with us in things like the Family Art Night, the Christmas Sing, or Field Day.
Along those same lines, I realize that we offer many opportunities for parents to come to school and that it may be overwhelming for parents to attend all of these events. That's okay, we understand. We invite you to come as often as circumstances permit. We like to offer many options for parents to come, not only because your presence enriches the event, but because there are so many different interests and time schedules to consider. Some parents love the animated crowds of the Spooktacular Math Night and others prefer the quiet one-on-one reading time provided by Reading Date with Mom or Dad.
Again, come when you can, we love having you here! By the way, it's okay for your children to be disappointed if you cannot come to every event. They will survive! Learning to deal with disappointment and watching parents prioritize are both important learning experiences all children should have.
