Lindon PTA 2009-10 Information

PTA Monthly News

November News, December News pg.1 & pg.2, Jan. 2010, Friendship First  News.

The PTA, School Community Council (SCC), and Lindon Elementary work cooperatively on many projects throughout the school.  We try to make sure that the events, opportunities, and programs we sponsor fulfill the school's theme:  "Work hard.  Learn well.  Play often.
  • Amy Clay (796-9536) will serve as this year's PTA President.  Amy has been one of our "super moms" in the PTA the last several years and has a deep understanding of PTA programs that will help her seamlessly transition into her new leadereship role.  She is easy-going and a joy to work with.  Please call her and offer your suport.
  • Diane Godfrey (785-2998) will continue serving as the SCC Chairperson this year.  She has been a classroom teacher and understands student needs and teacher challenges.  This will be valuable because the SCC is charged with helping improve student achievement.  The SCC manages a modes budget allocated by the Utah State Legislature.  Diane represents families in the Locust Avenue area and those west of State Street.  Tami Mickelsen (785-8505) represent families on the east side of our boundaries up by the canal and Bob Miller (722-8916) represents families living close to the school.  Look for several reports in the newsletter this year that will chronicle the discussions, decisions, and directives that flow from the SCC.
  • Lindon's School Community Council(SCC - News Letter)
  • LIndon's School Carnival Information
While school personnel and resources will be actively involved in all school events, the PTA will take the lead in many activities.  Here are some PTA-lead programs:

  • Reading Date with Mom
  • Reading Date with Dad
  • Reflections
  • Red Ribbon Week
  • Literacy Week
  • Book Fairs
  • Battle of the Books
  • Teacher Appreciation
  • PTA Carnival
  • Spook Alley
  • Family Dance Night
  • 5t/6th Maturation Program

None of the PTA programs are required, but all of them enhance student motivation, promote learning, and help develop a sense of community.  Therefore, when the PTA asks parents to join the PTA or holds a fundraiser (like the PTA Carnival on September 18th), please support them as much as possible with the understanding that all of the funds directly benefit our students.

PTA Previous Achievements

I just want to take this opportuity to say Thank You!!! It has been an amazing two years as PTA President. When I started I hardly knew anyone and I truly feel like I have been blessed to make so many dear friends. I have truly come to love all of the faculty and students and have gained a great appreciation of the parent support at our school.     I just wanted to take this opportunity to list some f the great successes we have had over the last couple of years. Over 8500 hours of service were given to our school by our great parents this year. Our school won a State Literacy Award two years in a row for great literacy programs. Grandparents Day was started two years ago and has been very successful. Dad's and Donuts and Mild and Cookies with Mom's was started two years ago and it has been wonderful seeing so many great parents at our school. Our students have had fun learning many Character Connection Traits with new activity sheets for drawings every week. Lindon Elementary celebrated it's 40th Anniversity this year and we kicked off a FAll Carnival that was very successful (1st in many years) We have broke records in bringing in Free money from the Box Tops with our class competitions (and every class is able to benefit). We have also made over $500 from Cream o Weber Milk Tops. With a new student spotlight program over the last two years we have learned many fun things about our students. We had our first Lindon Elementary School Dance in January and it was very successful for the whole family. As a way of better communicating with our parents, we implemented a new magnet calendar that comes home every month. This has made it easier for parents to know what is going on at our school.     There are so many more things I could list (I could go on forever), but I just wanted to sporlight a few. Over the last couple of years I have received many thanks from parents and faculty and I stand by the same thing I have said for the last two years. the only way all of these things have been so successful is becasue we have a great principal, facilty, students and parents and I have been blessed to be surrounded by AWESOME and AMAZING PEOPLE! It has taken an amazing TEAM of PTA Board Members, parents, staff and students to make all of these things happen.     Written by Cheri Hardman 2006 - 2008 Lindon PTA President PTA Important Needs (August 2009)
